The blue tiles have three symbols: The boat, the ancient symbol of the church as the barque of Peter. Three fish, another connection with Peter and being "fishers of men." The fish had been a symbol of the Christian movement because the formation of the Greek letter alpha resembles a fish and and the fish form a triangle symbolizing the triune God. The third symbol is the cross and the Greek alpha and omega. Fr. Pat Tucker, The Chimes, March 7, 1999, Chimes, 3 |
